'Irreplaceable' boxing referee Steve Smoger passes away – World Boxing Information

A lot-respected boxing referee Steve Smoger has handed away on the age of 79 – World Boxing Information is saddened to report.

Tributes got here early on Monday as studies broke that the ‘irreplaceable’ Smoger was not with us.

The World Boxing Council and plenty of high figures within the sport led these.

“It’s with a tragic and heavy coronary heart that we announce the passing of Steve Smoger,” stated the WBC.

“A genuinely nice boxing man, Steve can be tremendously missed and at all times admired.

“Your entire World Boxing Council Household and President Mauricio Sulaiman ship our deepest condolences to Steve’s household and associates.

“Nobody is indispensable. Some individuals are irreplaceable.”

Corridor of Fame promoter Lou DiBella added: “Relaxation in peace, Steve Smoger, an exemplary boxing referee and only a terrific man. He liked our sport and the individuals in it; it was mirrored in how he lived and labored.

“Stay day-after-day, associates; it’s a brief experience. Heartfelt condolences to the Smoger household.”

He was born August 15, 1943, in Norfolk, VA. Steve’s curiosity in boxing was impressed by his father, as they hung out watching the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports activities.

Steve began his time in boxing within the early Seventies as a decide and referee for the Police Athletic League. With Atlantic Metropolis experiencing a professional boxing growth, Steve saved a busy tempo as an inspector (1978-1983) in New Jersey.
